EXPERIENCE
I have 10 years’ experience as a solicitor in England and Wales. I qualified in 2007.
I trained and worked at one of London’s leading law firms in their specialist corporate and finance practice in London, Hong Kong and Singapore from 2005-2010. I have worked with business clients from across the globe, and have a particular interest in businesses operating in emerging markets.
As a sole practitioner I have worked with a range of smaller businesses, bringing the expertise, professionalism and skills from the City, to my select group of clients.
My private practice legal experience with clients and projects based in South and East Asia (Hong Kong, Macau, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, India), Central Asia (Kazakstan), Africa (Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa), and the Middle East has lead to a keen knowledge of global developing markets, and an awareness of differing business customs and cultures. My undergraduate degree at the incredible SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies), University of London was an excellent introduction to the legal systems outside Europe.
SOAS suited my love of the alternative approach, the path less travelled, and the wider vista, even within the traditionally grey and focused area of the law.

My legal style
I believe that one size does not fit all, and for me, that means running my own business, rather than sharing the profits with a big firm. It means I engage clients in my own name, and reap the benefits of my hard work. Like my clients, I do work hard, and I enjoy what I do.
My practice has had times of expansion and times of rest, as it fits around my world of business, two small children, family and hobbies. I love boats, baking and marking each season with an edible harvest in my small walled garden. I am there for my clients when they need me, and my clients know that they are an important part of my wider life - I am not just a lawyer. This means my approach to my clients is always calm, grounded and patient.
I have drawn together my qualifications and experience, my natural personality traits (I’m efficient, diligent, and precise), and my self-determination to create a legal practice that feels fresh and authentic.

The legal bits
My sole practice was recognised in April 2014, by the Solicitors Regulation Authority with number 612919. My personal practicing number is 394200.
I have full Professional Indemnity Insurance underwritten by Axis, an ‘A+’ rated insurer. Thankfully to date I haven't called on my insurers, but it is a comfort to me and my current and future clients that it exists. I also have had the same contact at my insurance broker since my practice was created, and I love the continuity of building a professional relationship and value being able to ask an expert questions when I have them.

What is a sole practitioner
I have chosen to operate my practice as a sole practitioner (the equivalent of a sole trader), rather than operate as a company, because I am committed to the idea that it is possible to be successful and to keep things simple. I am a commercial lawyer, so I understand the many benefits of running a limited company under English law. But I also enjoy the tradition of sole practitioners, putting themselves and their practice directly on the line.
